Strengthening Global Solidarity for Human Rights and Just Peace in the Philippines

This weekend, delegates from Britain joined friends and allies from Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands, and beyond in Brussels for Pagsibol a gathering dedicated to strengthening global solidarity for human rights and just peace in the Philippines.

Inspired by the Filipino word pagsibol, meaning the sprouting of new life and new possibilities, the conference brought together organisers, trade unionists, students, migrants, and advocates committed to supporting the Filipino people's struggle for human rights, national sovereignty, and lasting peace.

Participants heard powerful firsthand accounts from human rights defenders and grassroots leaders, including Atty. Maria Sol Taule of Karapatan, Amanda Echanis of AMIHAN, and Jerome Adonis and Joanne Cesario of Kilusang Mayo Uno. Through workshops, discussions, and cultural performances, delegates deepened their understanding of the realities faced by workers, peasants, women, and communities in the Philippines while strengthening networks of international solidarity across Europe.

As the conference concluded with a vibrant solidarity night, participants left Brussels carrying new knowledge, stronger friendships, and renewed determination to continue building international support for the Filipino people's aspirations for justice and peace.

We are hosting an evening research hackathon digging into Metals Exploration PLC and its subsidiaries operating in the Philippines.

Together, we’ll investigate mining exploration activites, corporate structures, human rights abuses, and environmental destruction linked to British Mining interests. This is a hands-on collaborative space to build skills, share knowledge, and strengthen the movement for corporate accountability.
